Working with search results

The results of your search will be presented as a series of summary records. Click on the title of a record to see the full biography. If a small version of a portrait is included, you can click the ‘View Portrait’ button (1) to see it in full.

Did you mean? (Search suggestions)

Occasionally, the website will suggest alternate spellings of your searches in case of mistyped text. Click on the link (2) if you would like to take advantage of these.

View options

There are two different view options for your search results: “List” and “Grid” (which presents a more visual gallery view but with less information). Click one of these icons (3) to change the view.

Sorting search results

The results of a search are presented with the most relevant entry at the top. You can also sort the results by surname (4).

Paging

Click the “Previous” and “Next” icons (5) to move forward and backward through pages of search results. You can also use the number links to move to a specific results page.

Selecting an action

From the ‘Select An Action’ drop-down menu (6), you can add records to your lists and email or print biography information. Select the items you want from your search results page by selecting their item checkbox(es) (7), or use the “Select All” checkbox (8) to select all items on the page. Then select the action you want to take from the ‘Select An Action’ menu. For more information, see Using the Select an Action drop-down menu.

Saving searches as RSS feeds

If you use RSS (“Rich Site Summary” - feeds for newsreader applications), you can click the “RSS” icon (9) to subscribe to any of your searches as an RSS feed. This way, you can see updated results of your specified searches through your newsreader application.
